Yangon, the commercial capital which is the main gateway to Myanmar. Evergreen and cool with lush tropical trees, shady parks and beautiful lakes, Yangon has earned the name of "The Garden City of the East". Yangon was founded by King Alaungpaya on the site of a small settlement called Dagon when he conquered the war in southern of Myanmar in 1755.
Kyaikhtiyo pagoda is located in the small town called Kyaikhto, in the Mon State. This destination is 160 kilometers away from Yangon. The pagoda is 1100 kilometers above sea-level. It is 11 kilometers uphill climb for the hikers from Kinpun base camp to this pagoda. There is also a steep winding road for 4-wheel drive cars from the base to the nearest point of the pagodas.
Shwedagon Pagoda is the most popular and well-known pagoda in Yangon. The pagoda is one of the main tourist destinations in Myanmar. The Shwedagon Pagoda is a great cone-shaped Buddhist monument that crowns cover a hill about one mile north of the Cantonment.
The Chauk Htat Gyi Pagoda is the famous for its huge image of Reclining Buddha that was built in 1966 replacing the old image built in 1907 by Sir Hpo Thar. But it was suffered damage due to climate over the years. In 1957 it was demolished and rebuilt to this structure in 1966. It measures 65 meters and is housed in an iron structure with corrugated iron sheets roof of six layers.
The Bogyoke Aung San Market is the most popular market and a well-known tourist destination in Yangon. It is one of the precious colonial buildings you can find in Yangon.
